Day thirteen

Thirteen proved to be a lucky day for us - more on this later.  Yesterday evening we took a dusk walk out around the cottage and in the evening light we saw both a wombat and a group of kangaroos feeding. Kate managed to get some photos but in ver poor light. This morning we walked along the Kangaroo River and even crossed the oldest bridge in Australia- it looked in better condition than our Bailey bridge!

We then went back up to the Highlands to Fitzroy Falls to see the famous waterfall. It was not promising with drizzle and mist.

We walked along the East Rim which took us through rainforest and gave glimpses of the staggering drop off the sandstone cliff.

The weather was improving all the time and we got several sightings of the yellow tailed black cockatoos.

We then encountered a Lyrebird! It was digging around in the bushes and digging up grubs.

The weather was clearing so we walked on to the end of the viewpoint trail and headed back taking the same photos but without the mist.

When we got back to the Lyrebird he was still digging around but promptly jumped up onto a branch and proceeded to give us his full repertoire for twenty minutes. I have a five minute video and when we get back to a wifi area I will upload it and add it to the blog.  Lyrebird - https://youtu.be/MoOlLYVvexY After a late lunch we walked around the reservoir again and spotted some more birds before heading back to the cottage. We went out for another evening stroll but no wombat and the 'roos were dining in a different field.
